Adisseo launches Mycoman for mycotoxin management

Adisseo has launched Mycoman, a digital platform for mycotoxin management. The tool helps users to anticipate mycotoxin contamination with prevision through partner Syngenta, as well as assisting to screen feed, improve mycotoxin management, manage risks, and protect animals.

Nutreco intends to acquire AECI Animal Health South Africa

Nutreco has announced its intention to acquire Chemfit Fine Chemicals Proprietary Limited t/a AECI Animal Health in South Africa. “We recognise the immense potential of the region, having already taken significant steps in 2016 with the acquisition of Advit,” the company wrote. AECI was founded in 2002 and has nationwide distribution from their manufacturing site in the Eastern Cape. The acquisition is anticipated to be in Q4 2024.

GMP+ Academy launches e-learning module on sampling for the feed industry 

The GMP+ Academy has launched a 45 minute e-learning module on sampling, which is crucial because contaminants at any stage of production can make the final product unsafe. The module covers what sampling is, why samples are taken and what equipment is needed, how to take samples, and how to label, seal and store samples. 

Schothorst Feed Research joins GFLI as member

Schothorst Feed Research, an independent research company in the nutrition of farm animals, has become a new member of the Global Feed LCA Institute. ‘De Schothorst’ was established in 1934 by animal feed cooperatives in the Netherlands to check the quality of feeds produced by individual members. Starting animal nutrition research for improved feed formulation, feed quality and better animal performance in 1938, the Institute is currently servicing more than 250 customers in the global animal feed and protein industry.

Entocycle raises a further US$2.6 million

As a new insect facility built by Entocycle opens at the University of Leeds Research Farm, the company announces raising an additional US$2.6 million to finance further expansion plans in Europe and beyond. The new funding follows the company’s US$5.4 million Series A round in January 2023. In parallel, a new R&D insect farm developed by insect technology company Entocycle for The University of Leeds has officially opened in Yorkshire. 

ADM announces traceable soybean meal and oil for European customers

With EU deforestation regulations coming into effect on 30 December, ADM has announced that it is offering verified, segregated, traceable soybean meal and oil to European customers. In March, ADM launched a fully traceable North American soybean program, re:source, which enrolled almost 5,300 farmers encompassing more than 4.6 million acres across 15 states for the 2024 season. The program utilises technology – such as the FBN Gradable digital platform – as well as ADM’s origination and transportation capabilities to verify, trace and segregate participating beans from farms to their final destination. The company will utilise the sustainability measurement platform TRACT to provide traceability solutions to its customers across the supply chain.

Bühler opens application center for local grains in Nigeria

Based on the need to address food insecurity not just in Nigeria, but progressively across the African continent, Bühler, in collaboration with Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, has opened an Application & Training Center with research and development capabilities in Kano, Nigeria, dedicated to processing local and ancient grains. The 3-floor building spans 480 sqm, housing pilot-scale production facilities, research and development labs, and classrooms. The production facility includes all steps of processing, from cleaning and sorting to dehulling, tempering, and milling. 

Fishmeal replacement for pig and poultry diets from UFAC UK

Omegapro is a slow-release, sustainable product, designed to support the health, growth and fertility of pigs and poultry. The product incorporates a blend of marine oils, amino acids, glycerine and minerals, processed on a base of soya and vegetable protein concentrates, to provide the equivalent benefits of fishmeal. As well as supplying high levels of highly digestible amino acids, alongside glucose and minerals, Omegapro also provides preformed omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, from marine sources.

DSM-Firmenich presents results of mycotoxin survey

dsm-firmenich has released the results of the World Mycotoxin Survey from January to June 2024. A total of 11,520 samples were collected and analysed from 77 countries worldwide. The results concluded that Fusarium mycotoxins, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone and fumonisins are most frequently found, with the highest regions of mycotoxins found in North and Central America, South Asia, South East Asia and China and Taiwan. The survey also includes details on the prevalence levels for each mycotoxin in each region, global and local risk levels for each mycotoxin, risk levels posed to each species, a comparison of prevalence levels from January-June 2023, and an overview on the occurrence of the most frequent mycotoxins, their masked and modified forms as well as emerging mycotoxins.
