The risk profile for Aflatoxin B1 for Austria has been adjusted from risk ‘Medium’ to ‘Low’.
This is the result of the evaluation of the available analysis results of the maize harvest 2015, GMP+ International – in collaboration with other collaborating scheme holders. In practice, this means that maize originating from Austria has to be analysed much less frequently because the risk of the presence of Aflatoxin B1 is virtually non-existent. The classification is done for maize and maize by-products originating from the harvest 2015 and 2016.
In addition to the new classification of Austria the new country classification affects 4 countries of origin of maize harvest 2015 (if still available on the market): maize from Brazil is classified as High, whereas maize from Canada, Poland and the Czech Republic are classified as Medium.
In addition, GMP+ warns to be alert in the purchase of maize from Bulgaria and Romania.
Based on information about harvest conditions in these countries, there is a risk of elevated Aflatoxin B1 levels in maize. Both countries are currently classified as ‘Medium’.
