A mycotoxin deactivator can reduce the toxic effects of T-2 toxin, ochratoxin A (OTA) and fumonisins (FUM) in broiler diets This was confirmed in studies, done by animal nutrition company Nutriad.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of a mycotoxin deactivation product (UNIKE® Plus) in diminishing the toxic effects of T-2 toxin, ochratoxin A (OTA) and fumonisins (FUM) added to broiler diets.

It was shown that the mycotoxin (T-2 toxin, OTA and FUM) contaminated feed reduced the digestibility and utilisation of feed nutrients and led to reduced animal performance followed by increased mortality of birds. Inclusion of the mycotoxin deactivation product into feed contaminated with mycotoxins showed reduced mortality of the birds compared with the control group, increased daily feed intake, increased daily weight gain and an improved FCR.

According to Nutriad, the inclusion of the mycotoxin deactivation product into contaminated feed decreased the negative effects of the mycotoxins present resulting in the relative productivity of broilers in the trial groups surpassing the control group. More effective nutrient utilization and better growth rates also led to additional feed savings for the birds fed the diet containing the mycotoxin deactivation product.

The results of this study indicate that continuous, specific, effective counteraction and control of mycotoxins offers an opportunity to significantly improve animal health, performance, productivity and profit.
