Recall: Lakeland Animal Nutrition recalls horse feed
Horse feed manufacturer Lakeland Animal Nutrition has recalled some of its horse feed products due to them containing ingredients that could kill horses.
Lakeland Animal Nutrition announced that some of its feed contains monensin, an animal antibiotic and possibly lasalocid, an antibacterial agent. Three horses have reportedly died after eating the feed, according to a press release put out by the company.
Other horses at the same equine facility have had “significant health reactions.” As a result, the following feeds have been recalled:
- Signature Status Pellet (Lot Number 14-251), manufacture date Sept. 8;
- Signature Equilete Pellet (Lot Number 14-259), manufacture date Sept. 16;
- Signature Status Pellet (Lot Number 14-280), manufacture date Oct. 7;
- LAN 10 Pellet (Lot Number 14-281), manufacture date Oct. 8.
Specific lot numbers can be found on the front centre of the feed bag and on the feed tag.
The company believes it has isolated the affected product, but anyone in possession of any of the listed feeds should discontinue its use and contact a local Lakeland Animal Nutrition dealer.
Several weeks ago Lakeland Animal Nutrition announced that it will no longer manufacture equine feeds and instead focus on its core livestock business.
