China’s soybean output expected to fall

14-12-2006 | |

China’s soyabean output is expected to slip slightly this year, reflecting a decrease in the area planted to soyabeans.

The average yield is expected to be the same compared to 2005, according to a
forecast made by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture. Imports are expected to
increase to support domestic consumption.

According to China’s
agriculture ministry estimates, soyabean imports totalled 21,252m tonnes in the
first three quarters of the year, up 8.8% from the same period the previous
year, while exports amounted to 284,000 tonnes, down 13.2% from the first three
quarters of 2005.
