BASF are currently unable to deliver selected vitamin A, vitamin E, and carotenoid products plus selected aroma ingredients after a fire in a plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
The German producer has declared a Force Majeure on deliveries with immediate effect until further notice, a statement reads. BASF is in close contact with customers to share updates and the developments regarding the supply capability of the affected products.
The fire occurred July 29th in a BASF plant that manufactures aroma ingredients and precursors for the vitamin A, vitamin E, and carotenoid production. All employees with minor injuries were able to leave the Medical Center on the evening of the incident. The incident has, however, caused damage to the plant, which has led to a shut down and a supply disruption of the afore-mentioned products, BASF says. Cleaning, inspection and repair work of the plant has started. Further updates will be available on the dedicated website.
The plant is part of BASF Nutrition & Health which provides a comprehensive product and service range for human and animal nutrition, pharmaceutical, and flavour & fragrance industries. BASF Nutrition & Health operates sites in Europe, North America and in Asia-Pacific.
