Cargill opens premix factory in Jordan

Cargill’s animal nutrition business (Provimi Jordan) inaugurated a state-of-the-art animal nutrition premix plant in Jordan to provide safe, sustainable solutions to meet the changing needs of farmers and feed producers in the Middle East. Cargill organised a ceremony on 17 April, attended by nearly 400 customers and esteemed guests from across the Middle Eastern region, to mark the grand opening of the facility, which is valued at USD $ 35 million. With a production capacity of approximately 65,000 metric tons of premix per year, the factory deploys progressive safety and quality standards.

Divided among 6 levels and with 92 silos, the plant features 3 segregated production lines – each with its own set of specially designed containers, mixers and packing line – which greatly minimise the risk of cross-contamination. The plant also has an animal nutrition lab and a team of nutritionists.

Price increase for MetAMINO® (DL-methionine 99%)

Evonik will increase its net price of MetAMINO® (DL-methionine 99% feed grade) worldwide by 7% with immediate effect. All existing contracts and supply agreements will be honoured. MetAMINO® ensures the adequate supply of sulphur amino acids, particularly the essential methionine. Because methionine is first-limiting in typical poultry diets, its use has been well established for many years. Additionally, diets for piglets and growing pigs can show a considerable deficiency in methionine, especially when formulated to achieve low nitrogen excretion for ecological reasons. Such a deficiency can be conveniently compensated for by using MetAMINO®.

Positive EFSA opinion for Digestarom® DC for weaned piglets

Animal nutrition company Biomin has reached a key step in the EU registration of its next-generation phytogenic feed additive, Digestarom® DC, as a zootechnical feed additive. On 16 April 2019, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) published a favourable Scientific Opinion on the safety and efficacy of Digestarom® DC in weaned piglets. “Based on the results of three efficacy studies in which positive benefits were seen, the additive has a potential to improve the growth performance of weaned piglets,” according to the Opinion. Biomin first introduced Digestarom® DC at VIV Asia in March 2017. In May 2017, BIOMIN submitted an EU dossier for Digestarom® DC as a zootechnical feed additive in piglets. A year later the company submitted an EU dossier for Digestarom® DC as a zootechnical feed additive in broilers that is currently under review. The company introduced Digestarom® DC to customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa at EuroTier in November 2018.

CP Foods launches new corn silage plant to boost milk production

Charoen Pokphand Foods (CP Foods) opened a corn silage plant in Thailand to increase quality and yield of dairy production with innovative forage. The joint project is expected to produce around 20,000 metric tonnes of quality forage this year, worth over 50 million baht (~ 1.4 million Euro). Mr Rewat Hathaisattayapong, COO at CP Foods, said the new feed product is a jointly development between CP Foods, Charoen Pokphand Produce (CPP), and CP Meiji to produce high quality corn silage for dairy farmers. The new forage will help cows to stay healthy and feed a superior quality milk to Thai dairy industry, enabling the industry to deliver best quality milk to consumers.

Location-wise, the new corn silage plant is located in CP Foods’ field crop research facility in Saraburi, the largest dairy farming area in Thailand. It will also act as a centre of dairy forage research, using over 30 years of CP Foods’ experience in dairy cow’s feed and CPP’s 40 years of experience in corn research. In addition to the facility, the project has a planting area developed for off-season farming, making it to be able to produce corn all year round.

MaGro: Tuna feed for the future

Now available in Japan, MaGro is a soft extruded feed for bluefin tuna that has been created by Skretting using patented production technology. The pellet can be squashed, without breaking. Due to this unique soft texture tuna easily accept the diet. The high nutrient density in MaGro means that the feed conversion ratio (FCR) is about 1/3 of feeding with baitfish. The formulation is also very consistent, comprising fully-traceable ingredients, whereas the nutritional profile of baitfish can fluctuate dramatically depending on the species used, when and where it was caught, and the storage system. Baitfish also needs to be frozen. The practical, easy-to-use format of MaGro means that farmers can utilise semi-automatic “canon” feeding systems, supporting much more efficient, cost-effective production, while also diminishing water pollution.

TITAN: For optimal yeast survival during feed processing

Scientists at Lallemand Animal Nutrition have developed a unique patented yeast protection technology, TITAN, that ensures optimal yeast survival and stability during industrial feed processing steps and feed storage. During TITAN production, the yeast particles are submitted to a particular drying process to form beadlets. The dried beadlets are then coated in a batch fluid bed with a specifically formulated lipid-based solution. TITAN protects the live yeasts against the pelleting process (heat, pressure and humidity) as well as interaction with other chemical compounds used in feed manufacturing. This has been extensively proven in numerous trials, both from independent institutes and commercial feed manufacturers under various industrial feed mill conditions; in various countries; and in all feed types such as complete feed, mineral, and diets for ruminants, swine and poultry.
