The Feed Flavourings Authorisation Consortium (FFAC) is conducting a major initiative to support the re-authorisation of feed flavouring additives in Europe.
Aimed at ensuring compliance with the most recent European Union (EU) regulations governing feed additives, this effort covers more than 800 feed flavouring additives.
Founded in support of this specific objective, FFAC is a consortium of more than 25 companies with a shared interest in the re‐authorisation of feed flavourings. It is hosted by FEFANA Asbl, the EU Association of Specialty Feed Ingredients and their Mixtures.
The re‐ authorisation project fosters the collection and sharing among FFAC members of state‐of‐the-art technical information concerning feed flavourings. This covers characterization, safety, efficacy and labelling. The process is conceived for the benefit of all users and is in full alignment with the requirements of the regulations governing placing on the market feed additives in EU.
Regulation (EU) 230/2013 requires the withdrawal from the market of any feed flavouring additives for which no application has been submitted to the European Commission by November 2010. Substances which have the effective support of the feed flavourings industry are excluded from this list.
FFAC was called into life following the announcement of the substances to be supported. The organization jointly filed the corresponding applications (submitting 58 dossiers, which covered 858 substances). FFAC is currently addressing the questions raised by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in the course of its scientific review. It is also collecting additional data in the event that European Commission should require further information to achieve full clarity concerning acceptable conditions of use of feed flavourings.
