Low oil DDGS has same energy content as barley

Research by the US Grains Council (USGC) found that low oil distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS) still had about the same energy content as barley when used in barley based rations.

At a conference in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, the USGC informed Canadian end-users about the new research on DDGS in barley based rations, a common Canadian formulation. Thus giving Canadian end-users with better information on utilizing the new, low-oil DDGS now available in export market.

Removal of oil from DDGS reduces energy content, but the research found that low oil DDGS still had about the same energy content as barley when used in barley based rations. This research was important in resolving uncertainty about the changing composition of DDGS and maintaining transparency between DDGS exporters and importers.
