Vitamin E varies in its potency, based on whether it is natural or synthetic. Natural vitamin E is recognized as d-α-tocopherol, or its acetate form, d-α-tocopheryl acetate and is made up of a single isomer.
Synthetic vitamin E, termed dl-α-tocopherol, also commonly known as dl-α-tocopheryl acetate contains a mixture of eight different isomers. Of these eight, only one is molecularly equivalent to natural vitamin E.
Horse trial
Fenchem just completed a study in cooperation with a famous university, which indicated that its natural TocoVet Vitamin E raise the horse serum levels more effectively when compared to the synthetic.
The study involved 10 Thoroughbred geldings (age 10.75 ± 2.2 years), which were divided randomly into two groups and administered 5000-IU doses of vitamin E.
One group was fed with synthetic vitamin E (dl-α-tocopheryl acetate), and the other was fed with TocoVet (405E) (d-α-tocopheryl acetate). Blood serum samples were collected before dosing and at 3, 6, 9, 12, 24 and 48 hours post-dosing.
Serum vitamin E levels were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography, and relative bioavailabilities were calculated from comparisons of magnitudes of responses measured by areas under the concentration versus time curves (AUC).
The results suggest that TocoVet more effectively raises serum vitamin E levels in horses when compared to synthetic vitamin E. The relative bioavailability was 1.95 times of that of the synthetic vitamin E.
Natural vitamin E
Fenchem′s TocoVet (405E), d-α-tocopheryl acetate (feed grade), is white free-flowing powder from natural source. This product is only used Non-GMO IP certified natural vitamin E as raw materials, and produced with micro-encapsulated technology, which increases the absorption of vitamin E.
As a feed additive, it can improve immune system health, antioxidant protection and reproduction of animals.
It has a greater bioavailability for horse nutrition. A regular schedule of training and competition makes performance horses susceptible to muscle damage, which is due largely to oxidative stress.
TocoVet provides vitamin E in a form that is easily absorbed, and is appropriate for horses of all ages that are stabled due to training schedules, travel, or injury.
