Peter De Schryver wins Jules Tournut Award

Post doc researcher at Ghent University in Belgium Peter De Schryver has been awarded the Jules Tournut prize by the European Probiotic Association.

De Schryver is currently conducting post-doctoral research in the laboratory of Aquaculture & Artemia Reference Centre, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering at Ghent University.

Out of twelve papers of which 8 were accepted by the EPA-jury he was chosen as the best. His subject was “Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) as a microbial agent in aquaculture”.

The Jules Tournut price contains a prize of €2,000 and is awarded by the European Probiotic Association.

Tournut (1919-1998) was a French veterinarian and professor at the Toulouse Veterinary School, who played an important role in popularisation of the probiotic concept in animal nutrition in Europe in the 1980s and 1990s.
