A two year projection funded by the Vietnamese government to help develop aquaculture in Sir Lanka was launched last month.

As part of the development there will be projects on seaweed, sea cucumbers and lobsters farming in Sri Lanka, plus an overall plan for developing the Sri Lanka aquaculture sector.

The launch took place at the headquarters of the National Aquaculture Development Authority of Sri Lanka in Colombo. In attendance was the Deputy Minister of Sri Lanka Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, SarathKumara Gunaratne, NAQDA President J. Chandrasoma, Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Ton Sinh Thanh, Director of the Research Institute for Aquaculture No 3 Dr. Dao Van Tri, aquaculture experts of the Institute and Sri Lanka media representatives.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne praised Vietnam’s remarkable achievements in aquaculture which is considered the valuable experience for Sri Lanka.
