Cargill’s animal nutrition business will streamline its production capabilities in Spain by extending its facility in Mequinenza (Zaragoza) with an additional state-of-the art production line.
The €20 million (USD22 million) investment will create more than 20 new jobs. The new line will be equipped with the latest technology for animal nutrition products. Strengthening Cargill’s leading position in the Spanish animal nutrition market, the expansion will enhance product quality, customer experience and improve logistics and distribution systems. The extended facility is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2017.
“We are strongly committed to help our customers with trusted animal feeds and customised nutrition solutions to help them maximise the performance of their operations,” said Alberto Martínez, managing director for Cargill’s animal nutrition business in Spain. “The new operation provides us with a long term perspective for our operations in Spain.”
Upon completion of the new lines in Mequinenza, production in the Colmenar Viejo facility will end and shift to the expanded facility, affecting approximately 40 people. The new positions created in Mequinenza will be made available to those affected, and Cargill will work closely with its employees and their representatives during the transition process.
“Spain remains a growing market and to meet the demand, producers are professionalising and scaling up their operations,” added Martínez. “We have been operating in Mequinenza since 2000 and this investment will enable our customers to obtain the best possible solutions, leveraging our global research and production capabilities.”
