Gisis Ecuador’s first feed mill to get BAP certification

Gisis is Ecuador’s first feed mill to attain Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. Gisis is part of Nutreco Group, global producer of animal nutrition and fish feed.

The Gisis shrimp and tilapia feed mill is located in Durán.

Shrimp and tilapia companies sourcing from BAP-certified hatcheries, farms and processing plants can now source feed from the Gisis facility and qualify to offer four-star BAP product. Four-star status is the highest designation in the BAP programme.

Nutreco completed the acquisition of 75 per cent of the shares of Gisis, a subsidiary of the Expalsa group, in June 2014.

The Gisis acquisition has strengthened Skretting — Nutreco’s aquaculture feed business in Latin America — with production, sales and distribution facilities for shrimp and tilapia feed sites in Ecuador, Honduras and Peru and a joint venture with Regal Springs in Honduras.
