Less pig feed in Great Britain
Animal feed production in Great Britain was up 21% for sheep and down 0.1% for poultry, 11% for pigs and 2.5% for cattle and calves in September 2016 compared to September 2015.
These figures were release by Defra.
The majority of the decline in pigs came from a reduction in grower feed production of 21%, while finishing and breeding feed output fell by 8% and 7% respectively, as explained on the website of ADHB. Taking a look at pig feed production over this 9-month time frame, it has totalled 1.35Mt, 2% down on the same point last year.
In terms of cereals used in total GB animal feed production in September, wheat inclusions were up by 3% year on year at 307Kt. However, barley (78Kt), oat (3Kt) and maize (24Kt) usage was down, by 10%, 17% and 8% respectively.
