The wheat production for 2008/2009 in Turkey has been projected at 16.8m tonnes, according to the US Department of Agriculture attaché in Ankara.
This is 300,000 tonnes higher than original forecast as the drought damage
was less worse than expected and a higher quality of seed was available.
Total wheat production is also up 1.3m tonnes on the previous 2007/08
season.
Corn production for the country is also expected to be higher
this season and is set at 4.15m tonnes (from 4m tonnes at earlier predictions).
