Many of the recent advances in pet nutrition have evolved from investigations to understand in more detail the physiological requirements of the animal. As a result, many ‘non-essential’ nutrients are now being seen to have a significant impact on the pets’ health. This first part will cover a short history of pet nutrition, and two specific nutrients, taurine and vitamin D.
