dsm-firmenich receives EU authorisation for HiPhorius

dsm-firmenich has announce the approval of HiPhorius for all poultry species for fattening or reared for laying or for breeding, sows of all Suidae species and all fin fish in the European Union. The company says that HiPhorius is a new generation phytase which can help farmers through more efficient phosphorous utilisation and faster more efficient removal of the potent antinutrient phytate.

Techna unveils nutrition and natural health innovations

Techna has presented the ‘Metrabol’ bolus, a natural feed supplement to promote the reproductive health of cows by accelerating the recovery of the uterus after calving. The company also presented Elensis, a blend of natural active ingredients that increase the production of volatile fatty acids and the propionate/acetate ratio, and improves the absorption of nutrients. This has been developed to increase milk production by +1.5 kg per cow per day. To improve protein digestibility in aquaculture feeds, the company developed Economix, a premix of plant-based additives designed to stimulate acid production and enzymatic activity in the digestive tract of fish and shrimp, facilitating the breakdown and absorption of proteins, reducing crude protein requirements, and replacing animal proteins with plant proteins. The company also launched Gallicalm, a premix of additives composed of active plant ingredients designed to reduce stress in poultry rearing, and to limit deviant behaviour such as pecking between birds, which can lead to feather loss, injuries and even serious complications such as cannibalism.

CB Group and Devenish Nutrition invest in poultry research facility

Jamaica’s CB Group and Northern Ireland’s Devenish Nutrition have partnered to commission an R&D facility for growing broiler chickens in a tropical climate in the Americas. The facility is based at The Nest, CB Group’s eco-industrial park in Jamaica, also home to its CB Chicken Air Chill Processing Plant. The House has 48 pens and has been designed in a way that allows for up to 6 different dietary treatments to be evaluated during each trial. The facility will be utilised to scientifically test variables such as feed formulations, housing conditions, and breeds to determine the best combination for the region. 

ShellFoss – Innovation for stable eggshells in laying hens

Vilofoss, a manufacturer of premixes and mineral feed for feed production, has introduced its latest innovation for the poultry industry: ShellFoss mineral feed, designed to optimise eggshell stability, specifically for laying hens, providing protection against cracked and misshapen eggs, particularly during the hens’ later laying stages. The specialized feed is also suitable for use in parent stocks.

Entocycle reports on trials of optical dosing solution at EnviroFlight

Entocycle has announce the success of its recent collaboration with Darling IngredientsEnviroFlight, the largest producer of insect-based ingredients in North America. The partnership, formed in 2023, brought Entocycle’s optical dosing solution, Entosight Neo, to EnviroFlight’s R&D centre in Apex, North Carolina, for trials. Entosight Neo uses imaging technology and machine learning to count and dose black soldier fly (BSF) neonates. Entocycle’s solution consistently delivered the target number of neonates with a mean absolute percentage error of 4.52%. The neonate survival rates after 5 days were comparable to, or higher than, those in the control group. 

Probiotic live yeast key to reducing fattening time and improving FCR

Including a probiotic live yeast in pig diets can shorten the fattening period by 3 days and improve feed conversion ratio (down 2.6%), according to results from a recent year-long trial carried out across 27,000 pigs in 66 batches where 32 batches were supplemented with the probiotic live yeast, Levucell SB (Saccharomyces cerevisiae boulardii CNCM I-1079) by Lallemand Animal Nutrition.

New e-learning modules on supplier assessment and management

The Collective Knowledge Programme is offering 2 new e-learning modules on assessing and managing suppliers, providing knowledge and skills related to feed safety. Companies can use them as refresher courses for current staff, or as foundational training for new employees. The modules take around 30 minutes, are accessible anytime and anywhere, and include practical examples. These modules, which have been put together by animal feed experts from AB AgriDe HeusTrouw Nutrition and Nutrion International, are now available at GMP+ Academy

Alltech 2024 US and European Harvest Analyses interim reports released

Alltech has released an interim report with the preliminary findings of its mycotoxin testing programme. In its 2024 European Harvest Analysis, samples of new-crop grains and forages collected from farms or animal feed production sites in 20 countries are tested. Corn samples from central and southern Europe are also tested in collaboration with SGS. The report shows moderate to high mycotoxin risk so far in 2024, with significant regional variations. Type B trichothecenes and emerging mycotoxins are most prevalent, but type B trichothecenes like deoxynivalenol are bringing the most risk in grains. The report also details specific results from wheat and barley, straw and forages. In the Alltech 2024 US Harvest Analysis, the preliminary analysis of corn silage samples reveals a high increase in mycotoxin contamination compared to 2023, with all samples containing 2 or more mycotoxins.

Layn Natural Ingredients launches TruGro CGA for piglets

Layn Natural Ingredients has announced the European-region launch of TruGro CGA, a feed ingredient derived from stevia leaf. The product aims to address the challenges faced by swine producers in supporting the health and growth of piglets during the post-weaning period.

Cargill wins at Fi Europe Innovation Awards 

At the recently-held Fi Europe Innovation Awards, Cargill was recognised in the Pet Food Innovation Award for its ultra-concentrated TruPet postbiotic, which the company says unlocks gut health, immunity, and vitality benefits by nourishing a rich gut microbiome.  

UPL and CH4 Global partner to bring methane-reducing feed supplement cattle

UPL and CH4 Global have signed a strategic partnership agreement to bring the latter’s methane-reducing feed supplement to millions of cattle per day, targeting key livestock markets in India, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, which together represent more than 40% of the world’s cattle population. The collaboration will establish specific business models to distribute CH4 Global’s Methane Tamer, a formulated cattle feed supplement based on whole Asparagopsis seaweed, to each of these markets.

dsm-firmenich receives market authorisation for Bovaer in Japan

dsm-firmenich has received market approval for the use of Bovaer in dairy and beef cattle in Japan. With about 4 million beef and dairy cattle, Japan is committed to a substantial reduction in methane emissions by 2030 (11% versus 2013 levels). The approval further supports the Japan’s commitments as a signatory of the Global Methane Pledge.

dsm-firmenich and Format Solutions partner with Sustell

dsm-firmenich’s Animal Nutrition & Health division, alongside Format Solutions, a provider of integrated formulation and feed ERP software, have announced a strategic alliance aimed at quantifying and managing the environmental impact of animal feed. The collaboration brings together Format Solutions’ formulation software with the comprehensive life cycle assessment platform Sustell, and aims to empower customers to calculate and share their feed footprints.

Hanskamp launches fully electric gate for cows

Hanskamp has introduced L’port Electric, an electric version of the existing L’port closing gate. This closing gate allows cows to take in their concentrate feed in peace, undisturbed by other animals, which enhances their welfare but also improves the efficiency of the feeding process. With the L’port Electric, the concentrate feeding station is securely closed, preventing any displacements and ensuring the feed always reaches the right cow.

Bewital Agri presents calf milk and supplementary feed for high-yielding dairy cows

At EuroTier 2024, Bewital Agri presented its latest innovation for calf rearing: Bewi-Milk AM 5, a milk replacer for calves with a crude protein content of 25% and a crude fat content of 17%. The company also unveiled Bewi-Fatrix CX, which combines rumen-protected fat with rapeseed lecithin, vitamin E and vitamin C. This blend is designed to support cows in managing metabolic-related challenges. Complemented by natural willow bark, this product promotes the health and longevity of dairy cows. 

Dinamica Generale and John Deere partner

John Deere and Dinamica Generale have partnered on precise feeding technology. The partnership will begin as a pilot in the Netherlands and focus on enabling customers to upgrade their feeder mixer wagon fleet. 

Royal Agrifirm Group and VetosEurope collaborate

Royal Agrifirm Group and VetosEurope have announced an exclusive distribution partnership for Anavrin. The feed additive for ruminants is a unique blend of natural and nature-identical components, including essential oils, tannins, and bioflavonoids and has been designed to support performance and reduce methane emissions. This agreement covers select European countries. 

Veos Group acquires OvaInnovations’ activities

Veos Group has acquired the activities of OvaInnovations, a producer of inedible egg proteins. The company will now have production capabilities in the US. The acquisition aligns with the Actipro brand, VEOS Group’s brand for functional proteins designed to support the feed and pet food industries.

Topcon introduces smart feeding platform for dairy producers

Topcon Agriculture has introduced the TMR Flex Pro feeding system, which has been developed together with farmers to improve daily workflow in a more practical and convenient way. It has been designed to allow dairy producers to manage the feeding process and have real-time insight into key aspects such as dry matter, refusals and pen deliveries. 

Cargill publishes 2024 Impact Report

Cargill has shared its Fiscal Year 2024 Impact Report, which details the company’s progress in sustainability. Highlights include an investment of US$100 million in sustainability projects; reducing emissions by 15.8%; advancing regenerative agriculture practices on 1.1 million acres of N. American land since 2020; restoring more than 38 billion liters of water in water-stressed regions; distributing more than US$130 million to support partners and local communities; providing 34 million meals globally, and; delivering more than 700,000 farmer trainings focused on sustainable agriculture practices. 

The Gericke Nibbler GNB calibrates particles and agglomerates

The Gericke Nibbler GNB has been used in the bulk solids industry for decades. It can deagglomerate dry, greasy or partially moisture containing products in an energy-efficient manner or to bring them to the desired target particle size. The latest generation of Gericke GNB nibblers creates more value for users, focusing on expanding process applications while reducing cleaning time and extending the service life of the nibbler screen. The new features target particle size can be easily adjusted by changing the shaker.

The platform gathers 7 functionalities for identifying, assessing, preventing and managing mycotoxin risk in order to minimise economic losses linked to contamination.

Perstorp Group appoints Ian Atterbury to lead Animal Nutrition

Perstorp Group has appointed Ian Atterbury joining as senior vice president of its Animal Nutrition business, effective 13 January 2025. Atterbury has over 30 years of experience in the animal nutrition industry. He has been working globally for the majority of his career and has a strong background in leading and growing animal nutrition business. He succeeds Aart Mateboer who retired earlier this year.

Novus dairy team welcomes new sales team members for N. American market

Novus has welcomed Tami Smith to their team to serve as ruminant sales manager, using her expertise in nutrition, formulation, on-farm dairy practices, and industry-specific software to support customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast states. Smith previously worked at Bestmix Software as senior sales executive. Juan Rozo has also joined the team as sales manager for the Pacific Northwest region. Rozo previously served as product manager and business development manager at ITK Inc., and was also a dairy consultant and nutritionist.
