Argentina sows the last of the new-season harvest

05-12-2006 | |

As Argentinean farmers continue to sow the final new-season harvest, the 2006/2007 maize crop progress is still undecided.

With Argentina being the world’s second largest maize supplier, the US
Department of Agriculture forecasts a 17.5 million tonne harvest. This can be
compared with the 2005/2006 maize production of 14.5 million tonnes.
Farmers have sown 78% of the 3.4 million hectares expected to be sown with
grain.
