BOCM Pauls invests in game feed supply

Increasing demand for game feeds has led to further investment in production, storage and packaging facilities by BOCM Pauls Speciality Feeds Division at their Bury St. Edmunds, Preston and Radstock mills.

Over £750,000 (€870,000) is currently being spent across the three mills and follows a recent £1 million (€1.16m) expenditure on expanding and upgrading the manufacturing and storage facilities at Bury St. Edmunds.

This mill is now being further extended to accommodate new systems of handling and storage for game feed bags in the 2010 season.

New packaging line
A new state-of-the-art packing line is being installed at the Preston mill and the feed delivery fleet is being expanded to enhance nationwide coverage for the company’s two main brands – Marsdens and Carta Carna Gold Medal.

In the South West, further investment is being made in the manufacturing and packaging systems at Radstock in order to take advantage of the significant increase in demand for game feeds in this region.

“Game feeds are strategically important to us,” says Speciality Feeds General Manager Simon Evans. “This is why we are investing substantially in our infrastructure to support the increasing activity in this sector.

“Dedicated customer services teams have been strengthened to keep pace with the increased sales activity and we are committed to continuing this investment programme in the future.”

Pheasant and partridge specialities
“Significant impetus has been given to our sales of Marsdens breeder and pre-breeder feeds by the development and introduction of Reproflor, a revolutionary new feed supplement which enhances reproductive performance in pheasant and partridges,” Evans says.

Results have shown that hens fed this supplement produced five extra eggs per bird with 4% increased hatchability. According to Evans this can mean an additional income of £5 per hen which has been welcomed by game farmers and keepers.
