BSE cow born after Canada feed rule

The Canadian government confirmed that its latest BSE case from June 23 was a five-year-old cow. This means that the animal was born after Canada’s 1997 feed rule.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said
no part of the animal’s carcass entered the human food supply, and no risk
materials entered the animal feed system.

CFIA continues to investigate
and gather additional information about the animal’s background and will
undertake a comprehensive feed investigation to examine how this animal became
infected.
