Cargill acquires ethanol facilities

05-04-2011 | |

In a week’s time Cargill has purchased two ethanol/alcohol facilities; one in the US and one in the Netherlands.

In the US Cargill has purchased Tate & Lyle’s corn wet mill ethanol plant in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

"We believe that a highly efficient, well-located corn wet mill ethanol plant fits well into our bio-product portfolio," said Alan Willits, president of Cargill Corn Milling North America.

The Fort Dodge asset is a corn wet mill ethanol facility. The existing facility has the ability to grind 150,000 bushels of corn per day and produce 115 million gallons of ethanol per year.

Dutch alcohol business
In the Netherlands Cargill has acquired Royal Nedalco’s alcohol business from its parent company Royal Cosun.

The acquisition, which was completed last Friday, includes Nedalco’s production sites in Sas van Gent, the Netherlands and in Manchester, the United Kingdom.

The two plants produce around one million hectolitres of potable and industrial alcohol per annum and employ approximately 100 people.

According to Cargill, Nedalco’s alcohol business will become an “integral part” of the company’s starches and sweeteners business in Europe.
