Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) wants to improve its presence in the Asian ready-to-eat food market.
To do so, the company will focus on two areas; 1) expanding its bio-secure
shrimp farming system in Trat province over the next two years. This will boost
its shrimp exports in 2009 to 40,000 tonnes; 45% to EU, Japan 25-30%, the US
5-10%, with South Korea and Australia making up the rest.
The second
area for CPF, focused on ready-to-eat food, will be “kurobuta” or black pork,
positioned as a premium-grade cut of the same quality as Japanese “Kobe” beef,
priced 30% higher than normal pork, in a bid to create more “food choices”, says
Adirek Sripratak, president and CEO of CPF, for export to high potential markets
including Hong Kong and Japan.
