Kansas State University receives $1m donation

The fund will benefit a faculty member in the Department of Grain Science and Industry, specifically the feed science and management undergraduate teaching program.

 

It will supplement salary while also providing additional operating support for assistants, travel, equipment, research and other expenses.

 

The generosity of the Browns marks the third endowed professorship for the department, which support each of the three bachelor’s degree programs available: milling science and management, baking science and management, and now feed science and management.

 

Jim graduated from K-State in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in feed science and management. Jim is the majority owner of Key Feeds, a feed manufacturer in Clay Center, Kan.

 

Carol also attended K-State, and earned her bachelor’s degree in human ecology in 1960.She is retired from the interior decorating business.

 

Jim currently serves on the College of Agriculture Dean’s Advisory Council. He and Carol are members of the KSU Foundation’s Presidents Club, a philanthropic leadership organization for friends and alumni of K-State.

 

This gift complements an earlier gift by K-State alumnus Ron Kruse, which is allowing K-State to build a new feed mill, biorefinery and grain handling facility. Ground breaking is scheduled for Oct. 2, 2010.

 

These gifts for faculty support and facility renewal in the Department of Grain Science and Industry at K-State provide a promising future for program growth and impact, and a solid basis for attracting and preparing young minds for rewarding careers in the grain-based food, feed and biofuel industry.
