Brunei’s aspiration towards a self-sustaining economy through diversification was given a boost following the foundation laying of the first local animal food manufacturing plant that could start operations as early as the first quarter of next year.
Acting Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Haji Hamdilah
bin Hj Abd Wahab applauded the efforts of the local company, Berjaya Makmur Sdn
Bhd, in trying to compete with overseas importers of animal feed. He was
confident that with hard work as well as support and cooperation from local
poultry farmers and an effective marketing plan, the company will become more
successful.
Representative of Berjaya Makmur Sdn Bhd, Awang Hj
Abdullah bin Hj Metahir, said, “The plant will be equipped with two types of
machines that can process animal feed. The first machine processes animal feed
for cows, goats and chicken, while the other will process food for fishes and
prawns. The plant is capable of producing up to 67,000 metric tonnes of animal
feed each year, which means that this company will be more than enough to supply
the needs of animal feed in the country,” he added.
