The huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is boosting sales of Thai shrimp to the US because consumers are worried about the safety of shrimp from the Gulf, reports Thai Shrimp Association president Somsak Paneetatyasai.
The Thai shrimp industry has already seen gains with export prices to the US up 20% this week, following on the rise of Thai shrimp exports to the US rising 19%, year-on-year to 8.8 billion baht (€221,000), as the largest consumer of Thailand’s total shrimp exports.
