Russia will export 14.3 mln tonnes of wheat in the current season which is 1.7 mln tonnes lower than the year before, according to a statement of the Agriculture Ministry.
The ministry reiterated that the country’s total grain export potential amounts to 20 mln tonnes, including 2.4 mln tonnes of barley and 2.8 mln tonnes of corn.
By November 20, the country had exported 13.1 mln tonnes of grain. Considering 12.3 mln tonnes of carryover stocks as of the beginning of the season the country’s total reserves of grain will amount to 103 mln tonnes.
In the 2012–2013 Russia exported 16 mln tonnes of grain. The fall of export can be explained with the fall of harvest due to the severe weather conditions this year.
At the same time according to the report wheat plantings in Russia are forecast to total more than 25 mln ha in 2014. The Agriculture Ministry points out that wheat plantings expand from year to year, because growers involve previously uncultivated land into crop rotation.
According to the ministry’s preliminary estimate, 12.23 mln ha of winter wheat will be planted at all types farms for 2014, including 9.1 mln ha at farming enterprises. Spring wheat plantings will total 13 mln ha, including 9.8 mln ha at farming enterprises.
