US-EU trade agreements: a farmer perspective

The free trade negotiations between Europe and the US are food for debate. But what are the implications for animal production? A lecture and discussion event about this topic will be held on the second day at EuroTier.

The targeted Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the European Union (EU) and the USA is currently the subject of lively debate. Instead of assessing the benefits rationally and weighing up the risks impartially, opinion is being stirred with emotions and half-truths. What is the current stage of the negotiations and what must livestock farmers in the EU and the USA expect?

Experts from the EU, the USA and Germany will be providing answers to these questions at first hand in a lecture and discussion event at EuroTier.  Jean-Marc Trarieux from the European Commission will focus on the European perspective regarding these negotiations. The effect for EU based farmers will be addressed by Dr Martin Banse from the Thünen-Institute in Germany. A US farmer perspective will be presented by Gina Tumbarello, Director International Policy and Trade at the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA).

The event is being organised by DLG (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft – German Agricultural Society) and IPPE (International Production & Processing Expo), Atlanta (USA) and will be held on Wednesday, 12 November 2014 (16.00h), in the Convention Centre (CC), Room 3 B. The conference language is English and all EuroTier 2014 ticket holders can attend.

For organisational reasons registration is required. http://www.eurotier.com/tagungen.html.
