WUR to develop BSE test in live animals

25-01-2007 | |

Wageningen UR (WUR) in the Netherlands is currently working on a BSE-test in live animals. By identifying cattle with BSE while they are still alive, could spare animals from being killed unnecessarily, and perhaps even allow herds to be screened for the disease.

The development of the test has not been sold yet said
Aalt Dijkhuizen, chairman of WUR but the test can be expected on the market this
year. In 2006, WUR sold the company Cedi Diagnostics to the Swiss based company
Prionics. Cedi Diagnostics is one of the European companies that developed a BSE
test for dead animals. This test is being used in the Netherlands by different
companies.
