The federal New Democrats have turned to YouTube in an effort to press for changes to the laws governing the production of pet food as more consumers turn to alternatives for their cats and dogs as a respond to the massive North American product recall.
Olivia Chow of the New Democrates was among the many Canadians who were
shocked to learn that unlike the United States and Europe, Canada has no body
overseeing pet food production. She therefore launched a minute-long amateur video on the popular website YouTube aiming to get the message out that Canada needs to
start regulating the pet food industry.
The video asks, “Do you know what
your cat ate for breakfast?” and calls on the public to sign a petition urging
the government to empower the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to regulate and
inspect pet food.
