SPACE 2024: 8 animal feed innovations awarded In September, SPACE will showcase 48 Innov’Space prize-winners whereby products, equipment or services have stood out as significant innovations. 37 products received one star and 11 received 2 stars. What interesting livestock feed innovations are on show this year?
Body fat assessment tool for layers Provimi Cargill : Reveal Layers
The body condition of laying hens is directly linked to long-term egg production and liver function. Provimi has developed a tool to measure body fat: Reveal Layers. The tool is a non-invasive technology using a mobile NIR device that measures the body condition of laying hens and the associated REVEAL application provides a concrete result between the NIR spectrogram result and body fat. The information provided by the application allows poultry layer producers and nutritionists to adjust the composition of the diet to achieve ideal body condition and maximise egg production. Reveal Layers integrates the Provimi holistic approach aimed at improving the technical performance of layers by optimising laying persistence and egg production.

Salmonella-positive raw materials decontamination device Vitalac Biotech : Salmotruck
Salmotruck is a comprehensive device dedicated to decontaminate salmonella-positive raw materials. Totally mobile and automated, this machinery allows on request sanitary bacterial decontamination in feed ingredients (soya cake and whole grains). With a 100 T/h treatment capacity, the machinery is adapted to port warehouses.
Invented in France, Salmotruck is spraying acidifier recipes conform to European regulation (Feed Hygiene Enhancer classification). A treated and decontaminated batch can then be released and supplied safely to feed millers.
For 30 years, Vitalac has been a front runner in acidifier formulation and expertise and plays a key part in feed industry safety. During the past 5 years, Vitalac treated 15 soya whole bean and soya cake batches totalling 23,000 tonnes allowing technology validation.

Automated feeding distributor for rabbits Innovlap : Bluebird concentrate feeder
The Bluebird, developed by Innovlap, is an automated feeding distributor for rabbits. Moving on an overhead rail, it provides customised feeding for each group of rabbits, tailored to their specific needs. With its gravity-based operation, the Bluebird reduces energy costs while improving park management. It automates rationing and effectively addresses health issues by dynamically adjusting feed portions. Additionally, it monitors feed stocks and reduces the workload for farmers.
Easy to install, the Bluebird can be adapted to new constructions and renovations. Robust and durable, it promotes sustainable agricultural practices while improving working conditions. With its ability to distribute feed precisely and appropriately, it ensures better rabbit growth and reduces feed waste. It is designed to be user-friendly, combining efficiency, economy, and well-being for both the farmer and the animals.

Electric dispensing wheelbarrow with facial recognition ECS: All e Mob RF
The Ali e Mob RF electric distributor wheelbarrow is equipped with a facial recognition system (RECOWGNITION). It is a self-propelled walking station which allows the distribution of concentrate to the trough or on the ground individually for each animal. The system uses facial recognition of the cows to distribute the right quantity of feed specially programmed for each animal.
With the Ali e Mob, the user has 2 options: online batch distribution via DPA weighing (flow proportional to progress), individual distribution via animal facial recognition of a pre-programmed quantity for each animal and controlled using a weighing system.
The Ali e Mob RF can transport up to 350 kg. Its differential bridge makes it easy to steer, and its small size allows it to be used in narrow corridors. The Ali e Mob is equipped with 2 agricultural driving wheels and 2 directional wheels under the handlebars. Thanks to its adjustable screw, it can distribute feed on either the right or the left.

XRF portable feed device Animine : AniGun
AniGun measures the mineral content of feedstuffs used in animal nutrition, with a focus on forages consumed by ruminants. It uses, for the first time, X-Ray fluorescence technology, as a portable device for animal feeding. AniGun gives analytical results of macro (P, Ca, K, S…) and micro-minerals (Zn, Mn, Cu, Fe, Cl…). Concentrations can be obtained in a few minutes, with the same accuracy as in a laboratory.
AniGun is a robust analyser that can be utilised in the field. Nutritionists can use it to determine mineral concentrations in the basal diet, at much lower costs than laboratory analysis. Sending samples and waiting for analytical results is no longer needed. By taking into account the real mineral concentrations in farms, a customised mineral supplementation can be defined. In most cases, supplementation levels can be reduced due to excess safety margins.

Free web feed formulation application Feed access : Feed formulation application
Feed access is a free web application that formulates a high-performance feed at the least cost. The user selects ingredients from a database of 110 raw materials, indicates their purchase price, the species and the growth stage. In just a few clicks, a balanced and economically optimised feed is calculated. Feed access adapts to each user. The main features include a formulation assistant for beginners (breeders, students), the possibility of personalising the nutritional values of ingredients, the effect of phytases and the calculation of constraint costs for advanced users (feed manufacturers, technicians, engineers, researchers). By popularising the formulation, Feed access promotes the use of local raw materials, particularly by-products, thus supporting sustainable breeding. The analysis of the data collected (price of raw materials and composition of formulated feed) makes it possible to target needs and offer solutions and services adapted to users of the application.

Web platform for animal nutrition data Provimin Cargill : MyProvilab Connect (1 Star)
MyProvilab Connect is a web platform that centralises analytical data for animal nutrition. It contains many modules in order to manage samples and control plans, from the request for analysis to the posting of results online, track the progress of scans with notifications, publish and distribute personalised newsletters automatically, driving and monitoring NIR (Near-Infrared), import chemistry results, valorise the forages and raw materials in formulation matrixes, leverage data with dynamic dashboards, export personal data.
The interface, which meets the needs of animal nutrition professionals, is accessible on PC and smartphone. The modules are fully configurable according to user profiles (technical salespeople, formulators, nutritionists, laboratory technicians etc).

Bioactive hydroxylated form of Vitamin D for Ruminants DSM Nutritional Products France : Rovimix Hy·D 1.25% additive premixture
Rovimix Hy·D 1.25% has just been approved by the EU as a nutritional additive in the vitamin D category, for all ruminants. It improves the effectiveness of their vitamin nutrition. When ingested, vitamin D3 must undergo 2 transformations, first in the liver and then in the kidneys, before it is bio-available. The performance of these processes reduces the level of vitamin D in the bloodstream. By providing the bioactive hydroxylated form (25-hydroxy cholecalciferol or 25OH-D3), Hy-D saves the first of these steps, improves the bio-availability of vitamin D, and increases its blood content, thus resulting in healthier animals. It is the only source of 25OHD3 authorised for use in ruminants in Europe.
Already used in the USA, Hy·D 1.25% offers new perspectives to European farmers to manage calcium imbalances at the beginning of lactation (hypocalcemia in dairy cows in particular), peripartum immune stress and young cattle’s growth.
